This is a new look for AA women’s basketball that hasn’t been seen in a while. When No. 1-seeded Washington upset for the first time last year, it was a fair gamble for new favorite O’Gorman to emerge from the field. The Knights have won the state title and are gearing up to defend their title this season. But Washington was still there, moving up to No. 1 and poised for yet another season-long battle for the top spot between the Warriors and Knights.

After the Warriors defeated O’Gorman and Jefferson in back-to-back games, Harrisburg scored at the then-No. 1 Washington buzzer-beater on January 17. Harrisburg dropped the next game to Jefferson. All the while, Pierre would go on to then-No. 2 O’Gorman go 10-2 on the season. It’s almost hard to understand, but every team in the Class AA Top 5 can beat any other team. It’s going to be a fun season to end as we enter the last month before the state tournament.

Hamlin’s women’s basketball looks unstoppable. The 13-0 Chargers have made the most of their experience this year, with deep runs in each of the last two state tournaments, finishing runners-up in Class A Women’s Basketball for the second year in a row. . The top two frontcourt players, Allie Abraham and Kami Wadsworth, both seniors this year, look to be off to the best starts yet in Hamlin.
But they’re not the only undefeated A-team. We still have Vermillion, who made a statement with a win over Wagner at the Hanson Girls’ Basketball Classic a few weeks ago.

At Dak XII/NEC Clash on Friday, the Chargers and Tanagers will face off in a neutral site matchup in the Madison High School gymnasium. Like the Red Raiders a few weeks ago, No. 1 Hamlin could have an advantage against Vermilion in this game as it will be the last test the Chargers will need to pass. A win over Vermilion (and even more convincingly) portended Hamlin’s move to the state championship. But the Tanagers have shocked Class A women’s basketball before.
