The NBA G League’s record for most blocks in a single season is in jeopardy, thanks to former Virginia center Jay Huff. The NBA development league record for most blocks in a season is currently held by Kurt Ruby, who blocked 166 shots in the 2009-2010 season, or an average of 3.3 blocks per game.
In just 10 games so far this season, Jay Huff has already blocked 44 shots, averaging 4.4 blocks per game. For context, his second-most-shotting blocker in the NBA G League averages 2.2 blocking his shots per game. Huff is on pace to break his shot record one block in a season, with him on track to record 220 blocks in a 50-game season if he keeps up this pace.
Huff has recorded at least four blocks seven times this season, and has also recorded a game of seven blocks. Virginia fans won’t be surprised by Huff’s shot-blocking ability. Huff appeared in four games for the Lakers last season, but he’s yet to score his first career points after playing just 20 minutes in those four games.
With his otherworldly rim protection skills and ability to act as an effective rim runner and three-point shooting center, Jay Huff has proven himself worthy of playing at the NBA level at this point. For the Lakers, or any other NBA team to see Huff’s potential and make a move to acquire him.
