BOSTON — The Knicks say nothing has changed in the prognosis for Mitchell Robinson’s return from thumb surgery, despite a rare official quote about the team made Thursday by owner James Dolan.
“The Knicks are doing great. They’re not at the top of the league, but they’re not at the bottom either. They’re in playoff position right now,” Dolan said in a televised Fox 5 interview, mostly at Madison Square Garden. and other venues about the company’s controversial facial recognition technology policy.
“So we have to get through the next four weeks.”
An extra four weeks would mean Robinson would miss next month’s All-Star break, but the only official timeline provided by the Knicks is that the starting center will be re-evaluated three weeks after surgery on Jan. 19. Jalen Brunson has vowed to hit back at Brooklyn native and Knicks teammate Obi Toppin for trash-talking him ahead of last week’s NFL playoff game between the Eagles and Giants. Branson joked Thursday that he didn’t have to reply after his favorite team beat the Giants 38-7 on Saturday to advance to the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.
When asked about Toppin’s bragging rights, Branson replied, “I think the score is good enough.” “I don’t need to say anything about how we won, so I’ll just leave it at that.”
Evan Fournier missed two games in a row after the birth of his second child. Marcus Smart (ankle) is out for the Celtics.
