In an exit interview 10 days ago, Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fittler made a comment he probably wanted back. He told reporters that Nicole Tepper, chief administrative officer of Tepper Sports & Entertainment and wife of David Tepper, was involved in the search for a new head coach.

As reported Thursday night by CBS Sports’ lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the Panthers have violated league rules regarding the search for a head coach. The violation concerns Tepper’s involvement, and Jones sources said Tepper “had not met the comprehensive recruitment training required for her to participate in the interview as of Tuesday night.”
In his report, Jones included a statement from Jonathan Bean, the NFL’s SVP and Chief Officer of Diversity and Inclusion. it reads:

Additionally, a Panthers spokesperson said on the matter:
“She was trained before participating in the interview.”
Carolina has already interviewed Steve Wilkes, Frank Reich, Jim Caldwell, Shane Steichen and Evero Ejiro.
