Flintoff had ambitions of becoming a professional boxer and having a long career in the sport. However, his first professional match turned out to be his last. Nevertheless, the Englishman fared very well in his only fight, defeating American Richard Dawson by points.

The battle started well for Flintoff. He looked a little stiff, but he moved better than his opponent. It was clear the plan was to outbox Dawson.

However, Dawson caught him with a strong left hook in the clinch. This caused the British to crash to the ground. Flintoff nevertheless stood up and fought. The third and his fourth round saw even better exchanges. Flintoff looked tired, but he continued. And after four close games, he advanced to the scorecards. Although Dawson dropped Flintoff in his second, the Englishman emerged victorious by his 39–38 decision.

Despite the controversial win, Flintoff never entered the ring again. He addressed the issue and said he doesn’t like being hit. So although he did well in his only professional fight, boxing was clearly not for Andrew Flintoff.
