Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena had a memorable rookie season. Philadelphia Gold his Glove winner and World Series MVP award, which overwhelmed his Phillies pitching staff, added to his trophy case in his first full season in the league. It’s hard to beat.
Coming into his sophomore campaign, Peña is set to take another step forward, but given his early success, it’s hard to see. During his MLB season in 2022, Peña posted . 253/. 289/. 426 and hit 22 home runs. And it’s exciting to think that there’s still room for growth.
Considering all these factors, it’s a surprise that the shortstop was left off the list of MLB’s top 10 shortstops for the 2023 MLB season. is difficult to swallow.
Additionally, Peña was listed as the third best shortstop in a fan poll before the “official” ranking was announced. Clearly fans feel like Peña is a star player who deserves recognition.
MLB now? Not really.
Regardless, January’s ranking doesn’t mean much and doesn’t hinder his potential growth and performance in the season opener.
It just gives Peña more fuel for the fire this season.
