Hornets tie NBA record with 51 points in 1st quarter against Bucks

MILWAUKEE — Terry Rozier posted a season-high 39 points and the Charlotte Hornets tied an NBA record with 51 points in the first quarter in a 138-109 win for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Charlotte’s 51-point blowout tied the NBA mark in the first quarter set by the Golden State Warriors against the Denver Nuggets in 2019.

The Hornets became the third team in the shot clock era to score 50 points in the first quarter in a road game. The Warriors scored his 50 points against the Denver and Syracuse Nationals on his Dec. 16, 1962, San Francisco Warriors.

Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo tied for third in the league with 32.7 points per game and scored a season-low nine points in 22 minutes. He shot 2 of 7 from the field and 5 of 11 on the foul line. Antetokounmpo’s lowest points so far this season have been 16 points on two occasions.

Bobby Portis had 19 points and 12 rebounds in his sixth straight double-double for the Bucks, who lost 6-of-9.

The Hornets had 24 points from LaMelo Ball and 23 from PJ Washington. The Hornets starter against the Bucks he scored 114 points. This is the most points scored by a team starter in franchise history.

Charlotte led 51-28 after the first quarter, pushed the lead to 84-60 at halftime, and made 14-of-30 3-pointers. His 84 points are the second-most in franchise history, trailing his 87 points for the Hornets late last season in a 156-128 victory in Indiana.

Rozier scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting in the first half, including 5-of-11 deep shots, and the ball went 6-of-9 on 3-point shots, before the break. scored 19 points on

Charlotte led 112-87 going into the fourth quarter.

The Hornets, whose biggest first-quarter lead was 45-17, shot 69 percent on 20-of-29 shooting early.

The Hornets outscored the Bucks 35-1 in points-from-turnovers and had the most points-from-turnovers (+34) of any team in the past 25 seasons.
