High School Basketball: Michael O’Brien’s Super 25 Rankings for January 8, 2023

In general, it’s very difficult to stay in the rankings after losing three games in a row. Somehow this week he had two teams succeed.

St. Ignatius lost to Glenbrook North on Saturday. This is his third loss for the Wolfpack after losses to Bolingbrook and the Lions. But those were his three teams ranked, and a loss to the Raiders was a consolation match. The Wolfpack also scored a quality win against Nutria in the first week of the season.Iggy needs a more recent win to wear that hat and soon. will stick with it for now.

St. Rita lost to St. Louis Chaminade on Saturday. It was a three-game losing streak for the Mustangs, who lost to Young and Proviso East. Again, these were his three better teams, and a loss to the Pirates was a consolation game. Like St. Ignatius, St. Rita remains at Super 25. The Mustang won the Brother Rice in early December.

Both teams have passed the looks test and should be playoff threats, but they need a win in the coming weeks to stay in the Super 25.

Downers Grove North and Perspectives-Leadership drop out this week. The Trojans lost 39-38 to the Lions and 48-46 to Hinsdale Central in three overtime games. So the drop is rough. If their overall resume had been stronger, these defeats alone wouldn’t have knocked them out.

Prospects – Leadership was completely destroyed by the Lions, who lost 73-29 on Saturday. A crushing loss like that shouldn’t happen to a ranked team.

Glenbrook South and Grayslake Central join us this week. The Titans have been very impressive with their win over Glenbrook North and their overall performance this season has been solid.

Grayslake Central lost their first game of the season and went on a 15-game winning streak, including defeating Barrington and Crystal Lake South to win the Jacob’s Holiday Tournament.
