Hawaii Women’s Basketball Returns With Victory Over Fullerton, California

On Saturday night, the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated Cull State Fullerton 66-53 at Simplify Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawaii improved to 5-8 overall and 3-1 against the Big West, while Fullerton, California went 6-7 and 1-3 in conference games.

After losing a late lead to UC San Diego on Thursday night, the Rainbow Wahine took an early lead behind former Big West Freshman of the Year Lilly Wahinekapu, who won the award as a member of the Titans last season. On Saturday, she made her first four field her goal attempts, including three of her 3-pointers. She finished with 14 points, going 5-for-6 from the field and including 3-4 for 4 while adding 7 assists.

Meanwhile, sophomore guard Meilani McBee scored a career-high 22 points, knocking down 6 of 13 3-point attempts.

At CSUF, Gabi Vidmar scored a team-high 16 points.

Hawaii will be participating in two road games starting next Saturday in Long Beach State. Tip off between ‘Bows and The Beach is set for 1pm HST.
