Petty GMS Rebranded as Legacy Motor Club (Racer): The name comes when 7-time champion Jimmie Johnson joins 7-time champion Richard Petty as owner of the Petty GMS race team There has been considerable speculation as to whether or not Change. If his two individuals, who share almost 20% of the NASCAR championship, own a team together, I think they have earned the right to call themselves the Legacy Motor Club. It’s a little bittersweet, though, because it’s the first time in NASCAR history that there’s no race team named Petty.

Also announced here: Jimmie Johnson will reverse his iconic number (as it is now used by his successor) and will drive #84 at some races this year. Johnson Has 83 wins, tied for 6th place all-time. Somewhat oddly crowded at this high in the record book, Johnson is one win away from tied for fourth with Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip, and just 10 out of the third spot with Jeff Gordon’s 93 wins. Victory. Reaching Gordon is an unrealistic goal (and my Gordon fans of him nervously breathe a sigh of relief), but it’s definitely possible to take one win and break the record.
