Former Phoenix Suns forward Tim Thomas is being wooed by Paramus Catholic High School to become a boys’ basketball coach, sources recently shared with Inside The Suns.
Thomas is highly respected for his AAU program and recently hosted the Allen Iverson Classic, a Blackout Signature Series produced by Showtime Basketball in his home state of New Jersey.
Thomas has been interested in grassroots basketball for years. His “Tim His Thomas Playaz” is one of the country’s premier national travel team his programs with luminaries such as Kobe Bryant, Victor Cruz and JR. Smith, Vince Carter. In 2019, Thomas hosted his high school’s holiday tournament in East New Jersey, Orange, and was a former director of basketball at the Pioneer Academy in Wayne, New Jersey.
Thomas spoke effusively about becoming more active in New Jersey, telling Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson of Bally Sports that he and Brooklyn ‘Nets point guard Kyrie Irving are working on a grassroots campaign in ‘The Garden’ state. He said he wants to create opportunities.
“We’ve talked about some upcoming things in New Jersey and Jersey basketball,” Thomas said.
The 7th overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, Thomas has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers. Prior to his NBA career, he was enrolled at his Villanova in college for one of his seasons.
Thomas retired from basketball in 2010 and played for the Suns in 2006.
