MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) – Manchester United have a great chance of winning their first trophy since 2017, as the team prepare for their League Cup semi-final first leg against Nottingham Forest. In the meantime, director Eric ten Hag said Tuesday.

United have been criticized by fans for the club’s trophy drought, with the last time the team won silverware was in 2017, when they won the Europa League and League Cup.

However, United have improved under Ten Hag and are the only British team to remain in contention in four competitions this season – the Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League.

“It’s about winning the trophy,” Ten Hag told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Forrest.

“Now we’re playing the second leg against Forest. I’m focused on the first leg. Don’t think too far ahead, it’s just a distraction.”

Ten Hag says United have made progress after losing 3-2 to league leaders Arsenal in their last game, and his squad will face 13th-placed Forest, nine places down from United. He said he was completely focused on that.

The Dutchman said Diogo Dalot, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial will remain out, but Casemiro will be available again after a one-match suspension in the league.

The second leg will be played at Old Trafford on 1 February.
