Football: Talley Knowles secures San Marcos in 7-1 win over Rio Mesa | Sport

Tully Knowles had three assists in the first 15 minutes of the game as Channel League leaders San Marcos beat Rio Mesa 7-1 on Tuesday.

Knoles found Luke Sheffey on two runs and connected with Jose Ramirez. Leonel Olivo in the top right corner he scored from 25 yards and Favi Rosales also shot from 18 yards he scored from outside the box.

“Talley’s assist was fantastic,” said manager Paul McLean. “He broke through the back line and played two balls in stride over 40 yards out to Sheffey when he added another for Jose. Talley’s passing is simply next level. It was the key to a quick start.”

After the first half, Rosales scored again as junior Kevin Sanchez beat the goalkeeper with a beautiful shot from the left flank into the bottom left corner.

Rio Mesa closed out the game by scoring on a breakaway combination.

San Marcos improved to 9-0 in the league and 10-1-2 overall.

“Joey Friedman was good at left-back,” McLean said. “Robert Rosales and Armando Alanis have run the midfield with coolness and creativity.”

Dos Pueblo 1, Buena 1

Luka Jevremović came off the bench and scored the equalizing goal for the Chargers with a header.

Coach Matt Yorke said, “His phenomenal header really gave us the feeling that we could compete for this thing.

Center-back Ethan Hung played a great defense in the DP, York said. “He was an incredible defender all night, bringing their physicality and speed when needed. He really worked on all fronts.”

Forward Finn Silver highlighted the goal

“Their goalie made some great saves to keep him off the scoring sheet,” Yorke said.

Dos Pueblos are 2-5-2 in the league and 2-9-2 overall.

Laguna Blanca 3, Santa Clara 2

Freshmen Baylor Wilson and Beckett Smithee scored for the Owls to improve to 4-0-1 in the Frontier League.

Wilson scored two goals and Sumtier had one goal and one assist, helping Laguna Blanca recover from a 1–0 half-time deficit. His senior Baron Frankie also picked up an assist.

Wilson scored with a cross from Smythe to equalize in the 63rd minute.

“It wasn’t a good game, but we got the win and continued to fight for the lead,” said Laguna manager Rick Rodriguez.

Laguna Blanca is on season 7-1-2.

Santa Ynez 9, Orkat Academy 0

Eric Salinas and Gabriel Bereschi scored two goals each, while five other Pirates scored one to secure a one-sided victory over Santa Ynez.

Rafael Bereschi, Marco Anderon, Braden Melville, Tyson Gonzalez and Aiden Tapia were the other goalscorers.

Bereskis are twins.

“I’m enjoying high school football with my twin brother this year,” Rafael said. “It was great to score both goals today and hopefully we can keep scoring against each other, especially in important games.”

Danny Anderon and Tristan Amezqua each had three assists.

San Marcos 2, Rio Mesa 0

Leilani Venegas and Nicoliou scored goals for San Marcos in women’s football in a 2-0 victory over Rio Mesa on Tuesday.

The Royals improve to 3-4-2 in the Channel League.

Venegas scored their first goal in the 32nd minute by tapping captain Maya Cranfer’s cross.

Ohr scored a pass from Kaitlyn Sparks in the second set to make it 2-0.

San Marcos hosts Ventura on Thursday.

Laguna Blanca 4, Dan 0

After a slow start, goals from Natalie Bianchi, Alexandra Siegel and Jacqueline Richardson towards the end of the first half ignited the Owls’ Frontier League win at Garsh Park.

Richardson scored the second goal in the second half.

Goalkeeper Victoria Goldman got a clean sheet.

The Owls improved their league record to 4 wins and 1 loss.

Pacifica 3, Santa Barbara 1

Tania Vallecillo scored for the Dons in the Channel League match.

Vallecillo hit the rebound from Carolina Esparza’s free kick.

“The girls played well, but we were unlucky not to finish the game with a draw,” said manager Willie Sims.
