Football – No date set for Sancho’s return but Ten Hag urges patience

(Reuters) – Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag has not set a date for Jadon Sancho’s return to first-team action, but he is rushing him back despite the team’s attacking problems. He said that this would not impair the winger’s physical and mental recovery.

The 22-year-old has struggled with his form since joining United from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. He has not played since his 22nd October and his absence, combined with Cristiano’s sending off of Ronaldo, has dried up United’s upfront options.

Ten Hag said last month that Sancho was “not in the right status or fitness”.

He returned to the club’s training ground this week after missing United’s two friendly matches in Spain and instead participating in an individual training program in the Netherlands.

“Football players are not robots. No one is the same and they need an individual approach. Working with Jadon we thought this was the best choice,” said Ten Hag. “We have some hurdles to overcome, but he’s on the right track.

“I want Jadon back as soon as possible, but there are some processes that cannot be enforced and this is one of them… I also have to show patience, but I’m lacking patience. of opportunities at the forefront.

“At the moment he’s not fit. It’s a bit physical and mental related, but I think he’s making good progress physically now and that’s going to help him. I hope it will come back, but I can’t say how long it will be.”

United will be looking for a seventh straight win in all competitions when they face struggling Everton in the FA Cup on Friday.
