(Reuters) – Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam have sacked coach Alfred Schreuder after drawing 1-1 with Volendam on Thursday.
Schreuder was appointed in May to replace Eric ten Hag on a two-year deal after leaving the Amsterdam-based club to become manager of Manchester United.
But after Ajax finished fifth in the Eredivisie, seven points behind leaders Feyenoord after 18 games, they decided to part ways with their former club Brugge coach.
Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar said in a statement: “This is a tough decision but a necessary one.” We lost a point, football itself was unstable.
“We took a long, early break over the winter because of the World Cup.
Ajax have not won a league match since beating RKC Waalwijk on 23 October and have drawn their last six Eredivisie matches.
