The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association announced Thursday that Sherrill Aronson was named its new state youth referee administrator.

Aronson became the first woman hired for the role.

SYRA is responsible for thousands of youth soccer referees in East New York.

Based in NY, Islip has been the host for the past ten years. She served as executive director of the Long Island She Referees Association, the largest refereeing group in the state.

“I’ve always loved football, both as a player and as a coach, but being a referee is really my passion. From the first game, I knew this was for me,” Aronson said. “I really enjoy being around the little ones and watching them understand the game and see how far they’ve progressed all the way to adult competition.”

Aronson has hosted the ENYYSA Games, US Soccer Development Academy, MLS Next, Women’s Premier Soccer League, United Soccer League and Men’s Open Cup.

Her day job is office manager for a commercial real estate office, as well as loan processing and asset management.

“Dealing with tenants is very similar to dealing with football parents,” she said.

Aronson brought enthusiasm and dedication to her new role.

“I’ve played every role as a referee. I understand the needs of refereeing and I know the game,” she said. “I have a strong desire to do everything I can to help all 10 of her boroughs in eastern New York.”
