A brawl broke out between students and adult spectators at a high school basketball game in Middletown on Tuesday night.

According to school officials, some student-athletes behaved “unsportsmanlike” at the end of the varsity basketball game held between Middletown High School and Weaver High School.

A brawl broke out involving both adults and students at that time, according to the school district.

The fight is being investigated by the police department. A spokesperson for Middletown Public Schools said officers were able to quickly control the situation.

An officer suffered minor injuries during an argument. Police are reviewing the footage and trying to figure out why the fight started.

The school district said it is following school district policies and protocols to fully address the issue. They said appropriate disciplinary action would be taken.

Middletown School Superintendent Vasquez Matos is launching the school’s crisis management team on Wednesday. High schools will also have additional staff to support students and teachers.

The presence of the police in schools will increase.
