Evan Mobley When the Cavaliers acquired him with the 3rd overall pick in the 2021 draft, he had high hopes. USC forward/center out Chris Bosh before he played his first game in the NBA.

This definitely put pressure on Mobley to make an impact right away.

Mobley’s rookie season can be considered successful on multiple fronts. He quickly became the best defender not only in the Cavaliers, but in the NBA as well. Mobley also showed a lot of potential offensively.

He averaged 15.0 points and 8.3 rebounds a game in his first year with an efficient 50.8 shooting percentage from the field. Mobley has produced about the same number in his sophomore season, drawing needless criticism from some.

Mobley has given all of these critics a rest for the past week and a half. In his last five games, Mobley is averaging 22.2 points on his 65.3% shooting.

He could force his will on defenders, move deep into the paint, unleash fadeaway jumpers, and land mid-range shots. A forward has almost everything to hit threes (which is fine).

This stretch included a career-setting night for Mobley. He dropped 38 points without making three or a single free throw in the process. He scored all the points from the field.

This ability for Mobley to create unique shots is something we haven’t seen from him yet. He doesn’t have to do this every night for Cleveland to be successful, but it does give the opposing defense another player to keep in check.
