BUFFALO, NY (AP) — Joel Faraby had two points and Samuel Elson made 28 saves on Monday night as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabers 4-0.
In his fifth start of the season, Arson earned his first career NHL shutout against the league’s highest-scoring team, giving the Flyers their fifth win in six games.
Faraby’s goals and assists were 1:27 apart in the first period. After Zach McEwen opened the scoring early in the first, Farabee’s goal gave Philadelphia a 2–0 lead. He then assisted Noah Cates’ goal to make it 3-0. Wade Allison scored about two minutes into the third period.
Craig Anderson had 34 saves for Buffalo, his first shutout of the season and his second loss in the last 10 games.
McEwen opened the scoring at 2:04 of the first when a pass from Patrick Brown glimpsed him past Anderson. Farabee made it 2–0 at 13:31 in the first after an Owen Power gaffe firing a wrist shot past Anderson. Cates made it 3-0 when he buried a rebound forward on a Travis Koneckney shot.
Collie in action
Sabers goalkeeper Eric Comrie was activated from the injured list on Monday. Comrie has been sidelined since suffering a lower-body injury against Ottawa on November 16. Goaltender Ukko Pekka Luckonen was loaned to AHL Rochester to make room on his roster.
State of Yokiharju
Sabers defenseman Henri Djoquiharju has been out since December 9 when he was injured against Pittsburgh. Buffalo general manager Kevin Adams said the team will update Jokiharju’s status on Tuesday. He is expected to be ready to return to the Sabers lineup sometime this week.
