Eagles’ Nick Siriani hits back at Jonathan Gannon critics

Nick Siriani may have already set his alarm for Monday morning.

he can’t wait

That’s when he calls the WIP Morning Show to strike back at those who were quick to criticize longtime host Angelo Cataldi and this season’s defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

“Man, what did they get?” Siriani said after the Eagles beat the Giants 38-7 in the divisional round. “Jonathan Gannon puts them in a great position. We have some great players, sometimes I have to ask about Jonathan Gannon, I don’t know if it’s you, maybe someone else, I won’t name you – Angelo – Right?

“But this guy is an incredible coordinator. The fact that he is not respected by our radio stations blows my mind. It blows my mind.”

The Eagles’ defense was excellent Saturday night.

After pitching a first-half shutout, the Giants eventually got on the scoreboard with a touchdown in the third quarter, but drained 6:01 off the clock in the process. Gannon, who was in a hurry, was probably pretty happy to trade 7-point time with Punk.

Gannon has received a lot of criticism during his two years here as defensive coordinator, not just Cataldi, but it’s hard to argue about the results and how they fared on Saturday night.

The Eagles held the Giants to 227 total yards. They made quarterback Daniel Jones’ night a living hell. And they wouldn’t even let the Giants think they had a chance of winning that game.

During the regular season, the Eagles finished second on defense in the league, giving up 301.5 yards per game.

Siriani said he wouldn’t listen much until the Eagles’ PR staff listened to Ganon’s criticism as they prepared for the interview.

“So every time I hear an answer about Jonathan Gannon, I laugh to myself,” Siriani said. I mean, for some reason, yes, this guy is incredible.

“He’s going to be the head football coach in the National Football League because of his job. This guy is a stud. He’s a stud. I can’t wait to talk to Angelo on Monday.”
