Eugene, Oregon – Sean Mapson named assistant and head coach of women’s soccer Graham Abel Announced on Wednesday.

Mapson came to Oregon after helping Idaho become one of the top defensive teams in the nation.Vandals is 18thth National average (0.65) relative to the 2022 target. Last season, Idaho went 12-3 and advanced to the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship game before losing to Northern Arizona on his kicks in penalties.
On a personal note, goalkeeper Kira Witte was named Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year and Big Sky Freshman of the Year 2022. Witte was one of eight Vandals named to the 2022 Big Sky All-Conference Team. Top Drawer Soccer ranked Witte his number 51 on its season-ending top 100 freshman list.
Mapson joined Vandals in 2018 as an assistant coach. During his five-year tenure, the Vandals were 41-31-14 in his tenure, and in the final two of his seasons he achieved a record of 22-9-5, earning a place in the Big Sky in his conference tournament. made his four forays into the .

Prior to Idaho, he was the head coach of Mississippi Valley State University from 2016-2017, leading MVSU to the SWAC tournament both seasons.
Mapson was an assistant coach for Southern Mississippi from 2011 to 2015, and began his coaching career at his alma mater, William Cary College, as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s football programs.
During his time at William Carey, Mapson helped the men’s and women’s teams qualify for back-to-back NAIA national competitions. In addition to that achievement, both goalies earned his NAIA First Team his All-America honors.
From 2007 to 2015, Mapson served as Youth Coach and Goalkeeping Director for the Youth Soccer Association of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
As a William Carey player, Mapson was twice named to the GCAC All-Conference Team in 2007 and 2009, and was named to the 2006 GCAC All-Freshman Team in 2006. He also played for Leicester City FC in England and his Macclesfield Town FC.
In addition to being a student-athlete, Mapson graduated from William Carey in 2011 with degrees in social sciences and physical education and coaching. Originally from Swindon, England, in 2014, he completed his Masters in Sports Coaching Education in Southern Mississippi.
