Down and Dirty Boxing 5: Full Card Coverage – Inside the Ropes Boxing

I was in the Lowell Memorial Auditorium building last night with ITR member Dakota covering “Down and Dirty Boxing 5” presented by Reyes Boxing. It was a great night of fighting and we thoroughly enjoyed our attendance. Thanks to Mike Reyes for looking after us and making sure we were properly accommodated. This article is about Fight Cards.

Welterweight Round 4: Carlos Gonzalez vs Trevazan Milatz

The night started with a four-round welterweight contest between Carlos Gonzalez and Trevazan Milatz, who came out aggressively to put Gonzalez on the back foot immediately. Both players had a few shots early on, but González was able to adapt to the pressure and in the first round he scored three knockdowns and his one at the end ended the fight. Gonzalez improved to 4-0, 4 KOs with the win. While his career is still young, Gonzalez has demonstrated a level of composure and explosiveness that could carry him far in the sport if he continues to do so.

Donnie Palmer vs Steve Vukosa, 10 round heavyweight bout

The heavyweights were up next with an intriguing matchup. 6’5 Steve “The Gentle Giant” Bukosa faced off against 6’10 Donny “Big Nasty” Palmer in a 10 round heavyweight battle. Palmer tried to use his jab early on to establish range, but Bukosa looked for a counter. Bukosa began to successfully potshot Palmer, landing clean shots on his body. Round 3 was competitive, with moments of success when opponents hit the ropes. For a 6’5 and he’s a 250 lb guy, Vukosa worked very well and as a result Palmer had trouble cutting the ring. Straight left hooks and right check hooks from southpaw Vukosa were his most effective tools as he caught Palmer coming with them on multiple occasions. Palmer began attacking his body in mid-rounds, hoping to slow down Vukosa’s movement.At the end of round 5, Vukosa briefly buckled with his right hand, but he held off the round. I survived. The next few rounds were competitive with both men getting their fair share of clean punches. Both were exhausted halfway through, but Vukosa closed out the fight strongly in the final few rounds. All in all, this was a really fun back and forth battle with both guys going all out. In the end, “The Gentle Giant” won by unanimous decision, extending their professional record to 14 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw.

Hegley Mosqueda vs Ezequiel Alberto Tevez Featherweight Round 8

The third bout of the night was an eight round festival weight match between Hegly Mosqueda and Ezequiel Alberto Tevez. Mosqueda started quickly, setting up combinations with crisp jabs. Tevez timed Mosqueda several times and caught him coming in, but he was unable to maintain a consistent offensive job. I was. Tevez was hit by a double right his hand in the third round, but Tevez quickly recovered. A right uppercut to his body sent Tevez to the canvas for the second time in the round. He made no count and Hegly Mosquedo took his 18th stoppage victory, improving to 23-0. Mosquood’s footwork and defensive responsibility really impressed me. He moved his head well and caught most of his opponent’s shots with his glove. He’s a remarkable figure with his 126 pounds. And judging by what I saw tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a big opportunity in the near future.

Luke Ianucciri vs Sergio Samuel Castellano Junior Middleweight Round 6

Luke Ianuccigli and Sergio Samuel Castellano faced off in a six round junior middleweight contest. Iannuccilli started on the front foot and worked both Castellano’s head and body. Iannuccilli’s explosive power was evident from his opening bell. It was especially noticeable when I released both hands in combination. Every time Castellano tried to launch an attack, he was met with a sharp counter-hit punch. Castellano had a few shots by Iannuccili when he hit the ropes at the end of the third round, but after a combination he was hit straight right by Iannucciri and his head popped back. Ianucilli used the pivot very well and never put himself in a vulnerable position. For a man so effective at closing the distance, Iannuccilli was very sharp on defense, moving his head well and letting Castellano’s jab slide with ease. Castellano was brought down by his right arm in his fifth inning, and though he managed to survive the round, Iannuccigli’s bodywork began to wear him down. It was a complete game for Iannucciri, who moved to 5-0 as a pro with a shutout victory. His style is reminiscent of former WBO 154lb champion Brian Castagno, putting him under financial pressure and making sure to take on defensive responsibilities in the process.

Harry Gigliotti vs Brandon Sandoval Junior Welterweight Round 8

The ABF Atlantic Super Lightweight title was contested in this eight-round matchup between Harry Gigliotti and Brandon Sandoval. In the opening round, Gigliotti used his sharp jab to set up power punches with success from long range. Gigliotti began timing Sandoval in round two, landing a powerful straight his right hand and checking for a left hook as Sandoval tried to close the distance. Sandoval tried to rough Gigliotti as the match progressed, but he was patient and didn’t let Sandoval’s hold and physicality deter him from his game plan. A right hand from Gigliotti at the end of round 6 backed up Sandoval and had him bombarded until the end of the round. Sandoval hit Gigliotti against the ropes several times, but when he did, it was still Gigliotti landing more effective punches. He became the ABF Atlantic Super Lightweight with a unanimous decision victory. Gigliotti has previously competed on multiple TV networks including ESPN, DAZN and Triller. Now that he’s his ABF Atlantic his champion, it’s definitely possible to see him fight on TV again in the near future.

Alicia Pike vs River Tucker Round 4 Super Bantamweight

It was the women’s sixth fight of the night as Alicia Pike was opposite River Tucker on the four rounders. There was immediate action as both women threw combinations and the fight began. This fight was at the pace of an amateur match. Neither woman was willing to give grounds. Pike showed her great head movement to dodge most of Tucker’s attacks early on. Round 3 was Tucker’s best of the round, as she scored multiple straights with her right hand. Both women came out swinging with pike-landing combinations to the head and body at the start of round four. It was a great action fight and the crowd rightfully cheered the two of them when the match ended. They put up a really interesting fight, so it’s a result that both women should be proud of.

Gabriel Morales vs Ryan Venable Lightweight Round 6

The co-main event was a six round between lightweights Gabriel Morales and Ryan Venable. Morales did a good job on his body early on, landing multiple straight right hands on his southpaw opponent downstairs. Venable was awkward in his movements and gave Morales various looks trying to get him out, Morales’ combination scoring a hard knockdown in the second round and a counter right hand clinching his Venable near the end of the round. I was allowed to. Both had offensive success in the third round, but Morales’ job was cleaner and stronger.A check for a left hook from Morales in the fourth sent Venable back to the canvas, but Venable recovered well. . In Round 5, both men had success and Venable showed that they were no longer immune to their previous knockdowns. Morales finished with a big round six to cap off a quality performance. He won by unanimous decision and is now 6-0 as a professional.

Jadel Pazmino vs Stacey Anderson Junior Welterweight Round 4

The main event of the night was Jadel Pazmino’s pro debut, as he faced tough veteran Stacey Anderson. Anderson has proven to be durable and defying prospects in the past, but not this time. Pazmino showed why he was so careful about getting out of the amateurs by stopping Anderson in the second round. Pazmino is currently 1-0 as a professional and is a player to watch out for in the future.
