The 2023 NFL Mock Draft trickle is now a steady stream.After Dane Brugler unveiled the 2023 Mock 2.0 this week, another titan of the industry — NFL networkDaniel Jeremiah of — Officially released the first mock of the season.
Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon and Iowa pass rusher Lucas Van Ness made the top 10, while Clemson defensive lineman Bryan Brees and Texas running backs made the list. There were some surprises early on in the mock, such as recognition of high talent such as Bijan Robinson. Round 1 is when those involved with the NFL begin to show how much of the media was wrong about players over the course of last season.
Who did Jeremiah let the Denver Broncos choose with the pick he got from the Bradley Chubb trade? With the 28th pick in this mock, Denver chose LSU edge rusher BJ Ojulari.
This first round weighs heavily on Edge Rusher. Ojulari has a fast first step and has an active hand as a pass rusher. The Broncos traded Bradley Chubb to Miami in the fall (earning this pick in the deal), and LSU’s product would be a solid replacement.

Listed at 6 feet 3 inches and 250 pounds, Ojulari is a speed pass rusher who has played primarily from a standup technique for the Tigers’ defense. With longs, twitches and bends, Ojulari has been a threat to hunt down passers with his baton rouge over the past two seasons.
Ojulari had excellent leadership skills and was known as one of the top dogs in LSU’s locker room. Famously awarded his No. 18 jersey (awarded to players who demonstrate leadership and high character both on and off the field), he offers a tremendously high floor with translatable pass rushing traits and intangibles. To do.
Ojulari’s hard work is evident given the variety of pass rushing moves he’s shown on tape, and it’s not just the sheer attributes that help him impact the game, but the skill to get the QB. It also clarifies that it is working and adding.
Ojulari needs to get stronger in the next level to hold up at the point of attack against Ran. He shows a valiant effort to set an edge, but too often he can get washed out and knocked back into the run. As a slasher also gives him great benefits. Because now his moves are mostly based on twitches, bends and speed around arcs.
Perhaps adding another speed rusher to Denver’s equation might seem like overkill to many in Broncos Country. But with how drastically the pass rush decreased as the season progressed, with Chubb lost in trades, Demont Jones injured, Randy Gregory and Baron Browning lost time and dealt with injuries, the team will certainly add more. QB next season using talent.
A pick like Ojulari is like blaming last season’s second-round pick Nick Bonnit. Bonnit still has good twitching and pass rushing upsides, but given his lack of strength and ability to run, he may never be more than a rotation roleplaying type pass rusher.
Additionally, Denver can certainly add to the defensive line (both edge and interior), but it’s pretty hard to predict which body type and skill set the team will value. A head coach who is about to be hired.
Denver could certainly add an offensive line, but their first 13 selections left only three tackles (in this writer’s opinion) of value in the first round off the board. Given how the draft is currently stacking up, Denver has dealt with the offensive line as best it can through free agency, and has made the first move to add talent in the second half of Day 1 with an edge rusher or cornerback. It would be wise to use rounds.
That means, if the Broncos still have a first-round pick, come April.
