Demetrius Andrade appeared on the latest episode of Brian Custer’s Last Stand Podcast, asking questions about everything from your recent weight gain to your new platform. See excerpts from his Andrade remarks below.
Andrade explains why he turned 168
“I can’t make a 160 anymore. Besides, there’s no one in the 160 who is a top fighter I want to fight while I’m there. So the 168 has more talent and more characters.” And I think they would be happy to step in the ring with me.”
about whether he believes this transition to PBC is coming at just the right time.
“Oh, sure. Definitely. I think it was the best decision. Also, the decision to move up and the decision to come here brings in a new light, a new character and talent that I brought to the table.” The division has become brighter thanks to Fight other opponents out there, another weight class that is now really strong.”
Why did you not sign with PBC in the past?
“I’ve tried. There’s a lot I can’t say, but I’ve been trying to be with PBC, Showtime, Al[Haymon]and others for years. Al knows. ‘If you talk to Demetrius Andrade, I’ll sue you.’ There was also a situation where a lawsuit reached everyone. This dates back to his 2012.
“Yet life goes on. DAZN has done a lot for me. I didn’t hear anything[from PBC]. So I went with[DAZN]and put up a bigger fight there.” At that time it was GGG, Canelo, Jaime Munguia and Billy Joe Saunders.
“So I took that road, now that road is over. We got over it and stayed pristine — tall, black, handsome — and then we got to 168 and there we were.” Just challenge the guys.”
For Eddie Hahn’s open admission that he was unable to deliver for him due to his lack of style and drawing ability
“I think that’s an excuse he’s using to make the network look like they tried, but I don’t think they were. Whoever stepped into that made the most money in their career it will be today tomorrow no one will get money fighting me fighters will fight me Like, they know what fighting Demetrius Andrade will do: the damage.”
Faced off with Canelo at a past press conference, but was fired for not fighting anyone
“I think it was just, ‘Come on, bro. I’m not here to hit back. Canelo was in a great position. Golden Boy and Oscar have done a great job of moving him and tying him up with tail-end Cotto, Mosley. When it came to the decision that you and I would fight our history at 154, you were my duty. Then I will be stripped. These are just facts. Then I’m stripped and you fight Liam Smith.
“You said you want to be recognized by everyone at 160 pounds. Who has the belt? Demetrius Andrade. You don’t want it to happen, you move up to 168 pounds… I I think that was the weakest department at the time, 168 pounds was weak, that’s the truth.”
Looking back on decisions he regrets making in his career
“I’ve done everything that’s good for me and my family. Today is 31-0 with (19 knockouts), 32-0 (20 knockouts)…”
On Canelo’s thoughts on a possible next fight against John Ryder
“More bullshit. Tuneup Fight is for people like me who have been fighting for 16 months. You just fought. What do you need a tune up for?…John Ryder? They How are you going to keep calling him best and pound for pound when he’s fighting those guys when you keep doing what he’s doing?”
On being hailed by Claressa Shields as probably the best fighter in the 168
“If you have one of the best, best female fighters and you say I’m one of the best, she knows. The boxing world knows, when it comes to the fans, I understand… In the boxing world, when I walk between boxers, everyone puts their head down and says, ‘Hey, that’s Demetrius Andrade,” let them know.
“And I beat everyone going into the Olympics. In professional rankings, you can choose who you fight and who you don’t. One man I didn’t Not (got it) son Sean Porter (caught these hands) Danny Jacob — bowKeith Thurman – bow!Everyone to name a few felt this leather. Austin Trout (Battered)”
