Former NFL coach Mike Zimmer is heading to Colorado to join the coaching staff of first-year Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.
On Monday, Sanders confirmed the news in a video posted to Thee Pregame Show’s YouTube channel, which said Zimmer was also “coming by the way,” and teased the idea of others joining his staff. It also highlighted Zimmer’s knowledge of the game and his ability to interact with young athletes.
“Forget the title. They know this game, they know kids, and they were able to make great decisions with kids and young men in mind,” Sanders said in the video. “So what I admire most is figuring out how to establish relationships with these young men.”
Zimmer joined Sanders’ staff in Colorado after helping him be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame during his tenure as a football coach at Jackson State University. Zimmer worked as an analyst ahead of his 2022 season for the Tigers. JSU finished his SWAC last season with his 12-1 and his 8-0, making him the first undefeated regular in show history, his second consecutive SWAC title, and his run to the Celebration Bowl. recorded his second appearance.
Prior to JSU, he was Sanders’ defensive back coach with the Cowboys from 1995-99. The duo helped Dallas win Super Bowl XXX against the Steelers.
