new orleans, louisiana– The New Orleans Pelicans have been losing games and defense lately. They are trying to change both. New Orleans struggles to close out the game without the serves of Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Ingram is set to return Wednesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Regardless of who’s on the court, Coach Willie Green knows playing solid defense is the card to success in the NBA.
Coach Green said New Orleans needs to re-establish its defensive identity after losing to the Orlando Magic last week. The Pelicans have surrendered averaging just under 100 in their last two games. It ranks first in the NBA in scoring defense during that stretch.
For the season, the Pelicans rank 7th in defensive efficiency, but are 3rd overall in the last two. They admitted that defense was the reason they entered the contest.
Pels will need to maintain his defensive intensity as he embarks on a grueling schedule ahead. They are set to play his eight games over the next 13 days, including his six against teams currently over .500.
Six of those games are also against teams that are currently in the top 10 points scorers in the NBA. The New Orleans defense will undoubtedly be put to the test soon.
