Claire Lane Joins Florida State Women’s Soccer Team from Tennessee

Tallahassee, Fla. — The Florida Seminole football team added a key transfer from Tennessee on Friday afternoon as Claire Lane signed with the Seminoles.

Claire Lane holds the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship Trophy. On Friday, January 13, 2023, it was announced that Rain had transferred from the University of Tennessee to Florida State University’s women’s soccer program. FSU won her 2021 NCAA Division I National Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship.

A former All-SEC Freshman winner, Laing is the second Tennessee Volunteer to join former teammate Taylor Huff to move to the Seminoles. A leading defender for the 2022 season, Laing started all 19 of his games for Tennessee and played his second-most on the team.

She was the cornerstone of the Lady Vols defense as they completed an eight-game shutout streak in the 2022 season. Laing gave her 1 assist to her teammate Huff against the Seminoles in her No. 5 Duke match on August 25.

During the 2021 freshman season, Laing tallied two goals and six assists and was named to the All-SEC freshman team.

As a freshman, she appeared in all 23 games and made 22 starts for the Lady Vols. After the season, Rain ranked her 32nd on her Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 Freshman list.

A native of Tampa, Florida, Laing played for HB Plant High School and also played club soccer for the Tampa Bay United Rowdies. Laing was a good track player entering the state competition in both the 100m dash (12.0) and he in the 400m dash (56.7).
