Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has once again strengthened his resume for the 2022 NFL MVP award.

Over the past two seasons, Mahomes has fallen just short of 5,000 passing yards. In Denver in Week 17 of the Chiefs, the passer in his sixth year at home in his matchup against the Broncos said he passed just 280 yards to reach 5,000 yards in the season. I needed it.

Mahomes was able to accomplish the feat as he connected with Blake Bell for a 17-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ divisional clash with the Broncos.

The former NFL MVP award winner made history with his touchdown pass. He joined Drew Brees (5) and Tom Brady (2), making him the only player to record more than 5,000 passing yards in a season.

Mahomes’ previous passing yards campaign of over 5,000 yards returned in 2018.

Overall, Mahomes continues to make a strong case for being the clear frontrunner for the 2022 NFL MVP award. He currently leads his NFL in multiple stats, including passing touchdowns (40).

The Chiefs will wrap up their regular season schedule with a road contest against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18.
