Jan. 14 — CHEYENNE — Dirk Dijkstal admits that a potential successor to Tim Denisson has temporarily put him on hold.

Denison’s Cheyenne Central Boys soccer team has won seven state championships and played in eight more. He was the only coach the Indians ever had.

“Anyone who follows Tim would be apprehensive about applying,” Dykstal said with a laugh. “There was little hesitation.

Deykshtal, who played for Dennison and has been his assistant for the past seven seasons, was hired on Friday as Central’s new youth soccer coach. contributed to the victory. His 32 shutouts are a Central school record.

He went on to play football and lacrosse at Carleton College in Minnesota.

“I’ve always had an affinity for the Central Program, and I owe a lot of that to Tim,” Deijstal said. “I came back many times after graduating to help the goalkeeper and everything he needed. Central Soccer has always been a big part of my life and will continue to be. .”

“He did a really good job in creating a sense of community, not just with the current team, but with the alumni network he created. It taught me a lot.”

Denison preferred a possession-based approach to the game. Deikustall said he would always adapt to whatever talent Central has, but he expects him to use the same scheme.

“There are many other programs in the state that run very high pressure type systems like 4-4-3,” he said. “It’s not usually a style of play that myself or my assistants like. We like a possession-oriented style.”

Deijkstal inherits a team that finished 6th in last spring’s Class 4A State Tournament with an 11-7-2 record. The Indian has a lot of experience coming back to the pitch.

“Our team is relatively young, but we have a lot of experience coming back,” said Deijstal. “In my opinion, he is the only senior starter to come back.
