The Texas A&M Aggies didn’t have the season many expected in 2022.
But that’s exactly what happened to the Jimbo Fishers Aggies after a 17-14 upset loss to Appalachian State at Kyle Field.
That loss, combined with a six-game losing streak, padded A&M at 5-7. But after what TCU has done this season, is there any reason for him to hope Aggieland next season?
The Horned Frogs of the Big 12 went 5-7 in 2021, followed by a 12-game winning streak in 2022, but lost the Big 12 title match to Kansas State and the National Championship match to Georgia.
CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli thinks A&M can pull off something similar.
Listen, it’s hard to trust Aggie. I’m not, but I can’t deny that this is her 2022 underperforming talent roster. It would have been impossible with the talent I had.
Most of that talent remains, and coach Jimbo Fischer may have finally admitted he needed a little help, bringing in Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator. Yes, there’s a risk this could explode spectacularly, but it’s also possible that everything clicks and Aggie finally breaks through.
Worst first? Yes, it will truly be a miracle 2023 season after the Aggies finished seventh in the seven-team SEC West.
In addition, A&M has lost many talents to the transfer portal from its so-called “Best Hiring Class of All Time” for 2022. However, the roster is still brimming with talent, with most of the starters remaining at College Station.
