One of the country’s top dedicated defensive backs has announced his final five players and impending contract dates.
Rodrick Pleasant of the 2023 class of Junipero Serra, Calif., announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he had reduced the list of finalists from six to five. UCLA football made the cut alongside Boston College, Cal, Oregon and USC, while Penn State was left on the chopping block.
The Bruins, who have been Pleasant contenders since including Pleasant in the top 12 in February 2022, also announced they would be signing on February 1st National Sign Day.
Pleasant’s most recent official visit was to Westwood on December 16, when he officially visited each of the top five non-USC schools.
UCLA first offered Pleasant in July 2021 after an informal visit to campus. Defensive Bucks coach Brian Norwood initially made an offer for the athlete, and has since continued to recruit prospects at 5-foot-11.
Pleasant has 4 star ratings from 247Sports, Rivals, ESPN and On3. 247Sports Composite ranks Pleasant as the #7 California recruit, #9 cornerback in the nation, and #86 prospect overall in its class.
Pleasant is the #3 prospect in the country and #1 in California, according to 247Sports Composite, and has yet to commit. If he chooses the Bruins, Pleasant will soon become the highest-rated defensive recruit to commit to UCLA since the arrival of coach Chip Kelly in November 2017, along with Dante Moore and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. , fourth highest overall, behind Shawn Ryan.
Pleasant played both cornerback and wide receiver for Junipero Serra during the 2022 campaign. Pleasant, who helped lead the team to his 7-5 record, recorded 30 tackles, 1.0 tackle-for-loss, four interceptions, seven pass deflections and one fumble recovery. .

On offense, Pleasant caught 5 passes for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pleasant added two touchdowns on kick returns during the 2022 season.
MaxPreps named Pleasant to the High School Football All-America team on Tuesday, earning one of the first team’s four defensive back spots.
Pleasant is also a track and field athlete, running a state-record 100-meter dash of 10.14 seconds in 2022.
Former Wyoming destination Azizi Hahn was disqualified after the 2022 season, making room for Pleasant to play at Westwood immediately. Devin Kirkwood, John Humphrey and Jaylin Davies will return to his room at cornerbacks after gaining significant playing time, but each will be involved in his defense for his second-worst pass of the Pac-12 this fall. Given what you’ve done, it may need some serious hardening.
None of the 13 players signed to a National Letter of Intent with UCLA during the early signing period in December is expected to play a corner. Commit Ethan O’Connor of 3-star Los Alamitos (CA) fills the role, but he is not yet signed to the program.
