Cardinal Newman girls shock Windsor with football

Well, Wednesday made quite the shock.

Considered by many to be the best team in the North Bay League, the Windsor Girls Football upset the Newman Cardinals 2-1 at home in the team’s NBL Oak opener. The Cardinals led 2–0 in the second half before the Jaguars returned his one run.

However, with three minutes remaining they continued to threaten, so it was all Newman for the entire contest. With the Cardinals currently 1-0 in the league, he’s 8-0 overall and still undefeated. The Jaguars he’s 6-1, 0-1.

Elsewhere, Maria Carrillo beat Montgomery 1-0 with a Maddie Graham penalty. Pumas goalkeeper Brynn his Coopera kept a clean sheet.

Ukiah Boys Wrestling won the league title Wednesday by beating Cardinal Newman 63-15.

The Wildcats dominated at midweight as Kimani Kapri (134 lbs) and Dane Rensen (154 lbs) both won by pinfall. The Wildcats’ other marquee wins were by Gibron Silva (108 lbs) and Jordan Schwarm at heavyweight. The Cardinals were scored by Eric McDonnell (115 lbs), Jonah Bertoli (172 lbs) and Anthony Veradao (184 lbs).

In Healdsburg, the Windsor beat the Greyhounds 52-12. The Jaguars, led by Braidan Cleaver, defeated Healdsburg’s Alex Diaz by majority vote at £126.

Maria Carrillo beat Elsie Allen 60-22 in six straight falls from 160 to 285 pounds. Of the 14 games, 11 ended in falls.

Montgomery also beat Annalee by a score of 57-21 on Wednesday for a league record of 2-0. The Montgomery women also improved to 2-0 with her winning 42-0.

men’s basketball

Petaluma beat crosstown rivals Casa Grande 60-42 to extend their third straight win on Wednesday. Elliott Blue led the Trojans in scoring with his 16 points, and Shane Douglas added his 11 points. Casa led by Jordan Giacomini and Carter Cerruti, who each scored 10 points.

Cloverdale beat St. Helena 61-46 on Tuesday and improved to 4-0 in the NCL I. Tatum Karpinski shined for the Eagles, scoring 34 points and Casey Remley added his 12. The Eagles are his 12-2 win overall, while the Saints are 7-6 and 3-2.

Reyna Golaskas had a double-double (23 points, 12 rebounds), Ivy Dutcher had 14 points, and Maria Carrillo beat Annalee 61-54 on Wednesday. ) and Lauren Toomer (10 points).
