Holland’s last appearance was with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 2021 MLB season, posting a 5.07 ERA in 49.2 innings pitched. Unlike Hamels, Holland looks set to return as the relief pitcher he’s been using since his MLB season in 2019.
Given the much quieter fanfare, Holland doesn’t seem to get as much interest as Hamels. It could be an option for teams that want a cheaper option.
At 36, he still has the ability, but he won’t change the direction of his competitors. As much a competitor as he is, he doesn’t seem right for the Cubs.
