It wasn’t the most ideal Burbank-Burrows matchup, but Friday saw the two women’s soccer teams face off at Memorial Field in a Pacific League contest.

The hosts Bears had an easy 4-0 win over the Bulldogs side, who were playing their first game since coach Alan Simon resigned earlier this week. Athletic Director Allison McCain, a former footballer, took over the team.

“We got through it and never gave up,” Burbank captain Valeria Rojas said.

Burroughs (8-4 overall, 6-2 in the league) dominated most of the play in midfield, but the freshman made 32 saves, leaving Burbank goalkeeper Sidney Evans Armendariz behind. I was able to pass only 4 times.

Sophomore Kiana Laughlin scored a hat-trick for her 17th goal of the season.

“We had a really great second half. I think we got the ball we needed. We were much more efficient with the ball. The level of play was much higher, as far as I could see,” said Laughlin.

After Laughlin scored for 18th min she added her 16th 48 goals in a seasonth 1 minute as the Bears used the opportunity to counterattack. She shot from the right edge of the goal box into the top left corner of the goal.

Three minutes later, he scored a hat-trick with a shot from the right side of the goal box into the bottom left corner.

Burbank (2-9, 1-7) didn’t put much pressure on Burroughs, except when sophomore sensation Mane Nersesian got the ball.

From far outside the goal box, Nersesian hit the top crossbar in the 54th minute.
Nersesian also shot in stoppage time and nearly found the net, but was stopped by a superb save from Burroughs goalkeeper Leila Hoyo.

Julia Narmour added a goal in stoppage time by putting a loose ball through the crowded goal box into the bottom left corner.
