Featherweight Bruce “ChouChou” Carrington from Brownsville, Brooklyn wants to start his 2023 campaign on a high note.
Carrington will take on Juan Antonio Lopez in a six-round showdown on Saturday, January 14 at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. Carrington-Lopez and the rest of the undercard will be streamed live exclusively on ESPN+. Carrington (5-0, 3 KOs), the 2020 United States Olympic Trials Champion, has had a successful first year as a professional. He made it 4–0 with his two knockouts, including highlight his reel his finishes against Stephen Brown and Julian Duhal. Carrington was scheduled to fight his December 10 at Madison Square Garden, but his opponent had health problems and the match was called off. He will face Lopez (17-12-1, 7 KOs) in his 2023. Lopez has been a pro for his 11 years out of Dallas, Texas and has tested many top contenders in the featherweight and junior lightweight divisions.
Carrington said, “2022 was exciting, but 2023 is the time to pick up the momentum and take over the featherweight division. I couldn’t fight on December 10, so I can’t wait to reach out to someone.” This year is going to be a big year and it starts on January 14th.
