Brazilian footballer Dani Alves is under investigation for alleged sexual assault in Barcelona last month, the High Court of Catalonia confirmed Tuesday.
“We are investigating the 15th Chamber of the Magistrates of the Peace of Barcelona over alleged sexual assaults alleged against a football player by a woman in connection with an alleged incident in a nightclub in Barcelona in December,” the court said. the statement said.
“This issue is under investigation and no further information is available at this time.”
A court spokesperson confirmed to CNN that the allegations relate to Dani Alves.
CNN reached out to Mexico’s UNAM for comment from the team and players but did not immediately hear back. Alves has denied any wrongdoing, according to Reuters.
Alves is one of the brightest footballers of his generation, winning national titles in Spain, Italy and France. He also won his three Champions League titles with Barcelona.
Alves won the Copa America with Brazil in 2007 and 2019. At the age of 39, he became the oldest Brazilian player to appear in his World Cup at the age of 39, while appearing for Qatar’s national team when his side played against Cameroon. .
