“SNL” had been off the air for a month. That meant the show’s writers missed an opportunity to parody a ton of big news items that happened during intermission. Luckily, Republican congressman/serial liar/grifter/cheater George Santos remains relevant, so the show’s first cold open of 2023 added a riff to his everything.

You can see some of them below.

Alas, it lends itself to a half-hearted parody of “Fox NFL Sunday,” which included jokes and references. But Bowen Yang once again delivered whatever he had, making even bad sketches fun by playing George Santos as a surprise sports reporter.

George Santos Heckled For A Series Of Lies About His Background: He's 'Trending On The Internet He Invented'

Jan’s Santos was clearly inspired by the real Santos interview with Tulsi Gabbard last December when he did a BS stream about details of his life and career that Santos lied about. In that interview, Santos accused him of lying about having worked in the financial industry, spewed out a series of seemingly hastily Googled terms he didn’t understand, and then voted voters too stupid. He said he didn’t understand what he was talking about.

Jan’s Santos didn’t go that far, but boasted a football career riddled with inaccuracies, including listing baseball statistics among his accomplishments. Then, at the end of the sketch, Yang’s Santos returned to hijack the broadcast again. This time, the drag Santos once had as “Kitara Revache,” his persona, which he, of course, denied.

A standout moment at this point was when Yang’s Santos started dancing to a house music remix of the NFL’s theme music. You can see the specific moment above. We’ll get the full video once they put it online.
