Australian boxer Liam Wilson was ordered to travel 12,000km away from his US fight camp this week as part of incredible preparations for his WBO world title fight. We also found a gym in the UK.
Wilson, who has already been ranked among the nation’s most exciting bout prospects, is currently gearing up for a WBO super featherweight showdown with Mexican star Emmanuel Navarrete in Arizona on February 4.
But just three weeks after the biggest fight of his life, Fox Sports Australia It can be made clear that Queenslanders do not yet have a relevant visa – and can only obtain documents classified as either Australia, Colombia or the United Kingdom.

Charlo asked me to prove the injury! | | 00:33
It’s been a chaotic few months for the 26-year-old Australian who has just entered the title fight after Oscar Valdes withdrew with an injury.
But rather than wait downstairs for the relevant paperwork, Wilson instead headed straight to Washington, D.C. and the Headbangers Gym run by famed US coach Barry Hunter.
And for good reason too.
Speaking all night from the U.S. capital, Wilson explained that the issue was just a “small gap” in his preparation, and it meant he was training and sparring at a higher level than ever before in his U.S. career. I’ve seen you do
The fighter has confirmed that he and head coach Ben Harrington will be leaving for three, possibly four days in the UK starting today (Thursday). This is much better than the trip to Sydney we originally thought.
Wilson and his team have worked closely with Hunter’s coaches aside from the elite sparring they receive at Headbangers. Hunter’s clients include Jerbonta Davis, Lamont Peterson, Adrian Broner, Shakur Stevenson and Errol Spence.
Importantly, Hunter is also working with top British fighter Isaac Doggbo, who has fought Navarrete twice in the past.
Both fights were lost, but Dogbo went the distance on both occasions.
All of this convinced Wilson that this minor inconvenience over the next three days was worth the pain that would come on fight night.
“It’s really just a tiny gap,” the Australian said of his whirlwind trip to London.
“The flight is only six hours one way and I’m only there for a few days.
“Originally, we were already thinking that we might have to go back to Australia or go to Colombia. So London isn’t bad.
“Then find a place to train over there. Let’s get to work.
“But we’ll sort everything out once we land.
“There is no shortage of gyms in London.”
Head coach Harrington was similarly relaxed about the trip.
“In an ideal world, it would all have been processed before it even arrived in the United States,” he said.
“But this world title opportunity fell on us quickly.
“And we wanted to be here quickly and go to work.
“So now we have to head to London to shoot for a few days.
“We’ll be doing some work there before we go back to finish the preparations, which means we have the best version of Liam Wilson ready for Fight Night.”
Asked about his preparations for the Headbangers, Wilson continued:
“There are new people here every day.
“Fighters you’ve never seen in a gym. They come from everywhere.

“So it’s hard to sparr every day.
“And it fits my style.
“Treat every spar like a battle. Good luck.
“And here I’ve been fighting everyone.
“Big Guy, Southpaw, Range Fighter…
“I feel like my job is intense and they try to match it. So that’s been great for me.”
