Ashley Kowak became UCSC’s all-time scoring leader in the Banana Slugs’ basketball loss.

Ashley Kowak became UC Santa Cruz’s women’s basketball all-time leading scorer on Saturday, as the Banana Slugs routed Bethesda 94-35 at Westfield House.

Kowak scored 18 of a game-high 26 points in the second half. She set her scoring record with her 8:55 layup remaining in the fourth quarter. On the next possession, Kowak vacated corner 3, making her exactly 1,500. Caylee Calandri held his career points scoring record of 1,496 since 2009.

Oberfeld Classic: Aptos Senior Dante Aranda (220 lbs) topped his division as the No. 5 seed at Saturday’s 58th Oberfeld Classic, which was attended by 45 teams.

Hunter Diemelt Memorial: Monte Vista Christian’s Rykin Resurreccion (134 lbs) withdrew from the final round of the 35-team Hunter Diemart Memorial at Livermore High on Saturday to finish second in his weight class.

Resurreccion finished 3–1 with three wins by the fall. James Logan’s Alex Chiu (134) wins.

Clovis North (225.0) won the team title. MVC (36.0) ranked 21st.

Judy Ryder Memorial: Santa Cruz Sr. Cynthia Rosales-Perez (189 lbs) placed second in her weight class at the 31 Team Judy Ryder Memorial at Hollister High School on Saturday.

Rosales-Perez won the first two games and fell in the second period. In the final, she lost to Katiana Martinez, her sophomore at Evergreen Her Valley by the Fall, in the third period.

Scotts Valley junior Kaise Martynowski (131) was third and fellow classmate Danika Kelly (126) was fourth.

Evergreen Valley (212.0) won the team title with James Logan (118.0) second and Pioneer Valley (114.5) third. Scotts Valley (46.0) was 17th, Santa Cruz (20.0) was 24th, and Soquel (6.0) was 30th.

Los Medaños 7, Cabrillo 3: Jonah Bachiu went 2-for-5 and scored on a passed ball, but the Seahawks lost Scott Masik’s head coaching debut in Saturday’s season opener.

Dominic Giuffre scored an RBI triple for the Seahawks (0-1) against Marin (0-2) at 2:00 pm on Tuesday.

Starting pitcher Ian Sullivan gave up three runs in three innings in the loss.

Scotts Valley 5, SLV 0: Freshman defender Isabella Moreati scored on a cross from freshman forward Samantha Lebart in the first minute to give the Falcons a win in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League on Saturday.

Senior forward Naiya Samios had three goals and one assist. She scored in the 9th, 18th and 70th minutes. Sophomore center midfielder Dillon Fiorita scored with an assist from Samios in the 26th minute.

Pacific College Eight 8, Trinity 1: Senior Ignacio Delgado Rueda scored twice in Puma’s PCAL Santa Lucia division on Friday.

Senior Kazuki Maeda, junior Finn Pomerenke, sophomore Sam Manchester, Elan Rizvi-Neumann, Hannibal Don and freshman Rohan Hilleker also scored in the PCS.

Manchester and Pacal Gonzalez Montejano split the time on goal, making one save each.

The Pumas (4-1-1, 4-0-1) will play at Oakwood in Morgan Hill on Monday at 3:30pm.
