Anthony Volpe Among Three Yankees Prospects In MLB Pipeline Top 100 – The Mercury News

The Yankees have some young talent on the verge of making a big-league contribution. Thursday night, MLB Pipeline released its annual Top 100 Prospects list featuring the three bombers.

Brian Cashman and company have cited future talent in their farm system as a reason to pass on elite shortstop free agents with noticeable holes in the position.

Yankee devotees will get a full glimpse of two of the three players on the Top 100 list in spring training. This is how the Yanks do it.

N0. 5 Anthony Volpe, SS

Anthony Volpe was ranked as the number one shortstop on MLB Pipeline’s list and ranked within the top five overall. The 21-year-old shortstop continued his climb towards the top last season, where he entered eighth.

The New Jersey native had 21 home runs and 50 stolen bases in 132 games from AA to AAA last season, posting a .249/.342/.460. The Yankees frontrunner was a 1995 Braves legend.

Volpe struggled out of the gate last season, but after adjusting to his new competition in AA, Volpe hit .289/.377/.532 from May 14 to Sept. recorded the line.

number. 47 Jason Dominguez

Jasson Dominguez was arguably one of the most hyped international prospects in MLB history. Since he made his professional debut, his expectations have softened a bit from comparisons between Mickey Mantle and Mike Trout.

The 19-year-old jumped from Low-A to AA last season, batting .273/.376/.461 and hitting 16 home runs in 120 games.

The Dominican native played in the MLB Futures Game in Los Angeles, where he placed second alongside No. 4 Volpe, and showed his true potential by hitting a homer off the right side.

The switch-hitter was a Yanks outfielder contender and was in the top 100 for the fourth year in a row.

number. 52 Oswaldo Peraza, SS

This prospect is more familiar to Yankee fans. Oswald Peraza finished in his 52nd place and the organization is his third ranked prospect.

Peraza, considered a front-runner to land the SS job this spring, experienced a major league game last season. The skilful defensive shortstop batted . 304/. 404/. 429 in his 18 games for the Bombers last season, and Houston he also started in Game 2 of his ALCS against the Astros.

259/.329/.448 and had 19 homers and 33 stolen bases in 99 games with AAA Scranton Wilkes Barre before he had coffee at Biggs.
