The Los Angeles Angels are showing interest in catcher Gary Sanchez as they look to improve their roster. Sanchez hit the Angels with a powerful but inconsistent bat behind the plate.

angels’ interest in Gary Sanchez was first reported by MLB Insider Hector Gomez. Los Angeles joined the San Francisco Giants as a team trying to sign the former New York Yankee.

Sanchez appeared in 128 games for the Minnesota Twins last season. 205 with 16 homers and 61 RBIs.

Prior to his year with the Twins, Sanchez spent seven years as a member of the New York Yankees. 230 with 138 homers and 340 RBIs. Sanchez made it to the All-Star Game where he was voted out twice and won the Silver Slugger during his stay in New York.

Power has never been Sanchez’s problem. He has 154 career home runs. But outside of his raw power, Sanchez has struggled in recent years. He had 136 strikeouts last year and 121 in his final year with the Yankees. The Angels know that while signing Sanchez will definitely increase their home runs, catchers will have plenty of frustrating at-bats.

However, at this time, Los Angeles may not have a better choice. Now the Angels are projected to start the year with Max Stassi or Logan Ohoppe behind the plate. Stassi is a .212 hitter with just 41 home runs, while Ohoppe has just five MLB games.

The Angels will aim to make the postseason as long as they have Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. If Los Angeles signs Sanchez, they’ll expect him to find more consistency at the plate while offering tremendous power.
