BILLINGS — After interim piloting the men’s soccer program in Billings, Montana for the fall 2022 season, Aaron Champenoy was named head coach Wednesday by Yellowjackets Athletic Director Michael Bazemore.
Champneuy was appointed interim head coach just one month before the 2022 season. He led the Yellow Jackets to a 5-9-3 overall record and finished fifth in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play with a 3-6-3 mark.
Champenoy was named the 2016 NAIA National Coach of the Year after leading Hastings College to a national title with a 24-0-1 record. In his most recent tenure as college head coach, Champnoy compiled his 43-3-2 cumulative record in his two seasons at Hastings in 2016-17.
Champnoy’s successful tenure at Hastings has included seven All-American players, ten United Soccer Coaches all-region photos, four Great Plains Athletic Conference Players of the Year, and twelve first-team All-Conference Contains a selection.
Prior to his Hastings career, Champnoy was tasked with starting the men’s soccer program at St. Thomas’ College in Houston, Texas in the fall of 2007. Red River Athletic He won the conference championship and was named Conference Coach of the Year twice. Champneuy served as a strength and conditioning coach during his time at St. Thomas College and led fundraising and corporate partnerships for the football program.
Champenoy’s college coaching career began at his alma mater in 2003 when he landed the head coaching position at Bellevue University in Nebraska. 4 In his season, he compiled his 50-27-6 record, making the postseason every year and leading the team to his 2006 Midlands College Eight He Athletic his conference title. , earned the honor of Conference Coach of the Year.
In total, Champneuy has a record of 180-100-22 (.632) in 16 seasons as a college-level head coach.
Champneuy led the Bellevue men’s football team to a 51-25-4 record and two Region IV tournament appearances during his four-year playing career from 1998-2001. .
Schampnoy was an honorable mention in the senior season All-American selection, was team captain for three years, played primarily as a center back and holding midfielder, and was a two-time All-Legion and All-MCAC selection. Champenoy graduated from Bellevue cum laude in 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He currently holds a master’s degree in athletic management and coaching from Concordia University Irvine.
Champenoy has been heavily involved in the football coaching scene for the last five years. Since 2017, he has been the director of the Nebraska Buggeters club, and from 2018-21, he has been the athletic director of Durango High School in Durango, Colorado. He came to his MSUB last year as assistant to his Athletic Director of Foreign Relations at his fellow NCAA Division II Fort Lewis College. There, he was primarily responsible for the athletic division’s fundraising and corporate partnership efforts.
