Ed Reed announced Saturday that he will no longer be coaching Bethune Cookman After the school decided not to ratify his contract. According to Reid, the school refused to give him the resources he needed to succeed.
Bethune-Cookman first chose to hire Reed in late December. Since the former Ravens, safety has been a priority in school facilities and conditions.
Reid initially took the position because of Deion Sanders’ success at Jackson State University. After Reed released his latest update, Sanders gave him advice based on his take on the situation.
“We talked about this, we knew the structure, we knew the order, we knew how it would play out,” Saunders told Reid. I know what you are feeling and I know what you are going through and you need to understand that God has a time and place for you I know you love books, how you feel about their children and I know you don’t want to leave those children.
Despite his desire to see the HBCU succeed, Sanders told Reed he understood why this decision had to be made.
“I am praying for you now because I know this is the hardest thing you have ever had to do in your life. I know it’s hard, I know you don’t want to hear it, but sometimes in life you have to walk away,” Sanders continued. You didn’t let me down, you didn’t let your children down, you did what you were called to do and you did your best.”
In an Instagram post made after the initial tweet, Reed said the move was not his decision, stating: Administration and AD are kicking me out. ”
Sanders coached Jackson State University for three years, won back-to-back SWAC titles with a 27-6 record, and took the Colorado state job in December.
