The classic Moore League youth soccer rivalry between Millikan and Cabrillo did not disappoint Thursday night.
Millikan scored three goals in the first half and Cabrillo scored two goals in the second half to create a nervous moment in the second half, but the Rams won 3-2 away.
Millikan’s Juan Vazquez, who scored the second goal, said: “It was very intense. “The first half was completely ours. We could have done better in the second half. We should have kept our heads down to keep a clean sheet.” .”
The win moved Millikan (10-4-5, 5-1-1) to the top of the Moore League table, two points behind second-placed Cabrillo (4-2-2, 11-3-3). I got it.

“I saw the ball coming to me, I touched it, then I looked up for a second and the goal was open. I just scored,” Vazquez said. “I didn’t look good in practice yesterday, but I scored and it worked. The coach wants me to finish as best as possible.”
Schofield said the Rams are incorporating more long-range shots into their training sessions.
“We have guys who can hit the ball well, so we’ve been working on that in practice,” Scofield said. “At the beginning of the league season, we scored from a lot of set pieces, so we are looking to create more goal chances from the flow of the match, and that is one of them.”
Millikan used the same strategy again in the 31st minute when Juan Ramírez Escovedo’s long-range shot deflected and went inside.
The Jaguars came out strong in the second half when Nathan Mosqueda met an errant ball at the back post and put Cabrillo on the board.
Millikan created several golden opportunities to add goals in the second half but were unable to convert them and Cabrillo opened the door for a counter-attack. In the 57th minute, Javier Palomares scored at home to make it 3-2, and that’s exactly what happened.

Cabrillo’s coach Pat Noyes said, “We started very slowly against them and I don’t know why, but I think in the end this will actually make us stronger.” I think we’re going to do well because of that second half, and after that game I told[the team]that from now on we can win every game that’s in front of us.”
Millikan will travel to Wilson on Monday while Cabrillo will host Compton.
