Duke’s basketball talents are unlikely to make him one of only two NBA All-Star Game captains to draft a team named after them. It will go to either Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant.
But a group of the NBA’s Blue Devils are playing with the show’s records.
The 2021 NBA All-Star Game featured a record number of Blue Devils in Jason Tatum, Kyrie Irving and Zion Williamson. All three were starters and had the most finishes from any program in the same year. However, Kentucky (2018) and UCLA (1983) hold another record of four former players becoming All-Stars at once.

On Thursday, the NBA released the third batch of returns from fan voting to determine this year’s 10 starters (and two captains). Fan voting, which ends Saturday at 11:59 PM, is 50% of the equation. Media members and current players account for 25% each, and 30 NBA coaches determine his 14 reserves.
As it stands, the following four Duke basketball names are in the top 10 as voted by frontcourt players or guards in their respective conferences.

- Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is a three-time All-Star and ranks third among Eastern Conference frontcourt players with 4,521,414 votes.
- Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is a seven-time All-Star and ranks first among Eastern Conference guards with 3,968,041 votes.
- New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson, a former All-Star, ranks fourth among Western Conference frontcourt players with 3,760,732 votes.
- Orlando Magic rookie Paolo Banchero ranked eighth among Eastern Conference frontcourt players with 501,316 votes.
The league will announce the captains (the players with the most fan votes in each conference) and starters on TNT next Thursday at 7pm. After that, his NBA Tip-Off show on TNT will announce his reserves on February 2nd. No date has yet been reported when the captain will draft the team.
Salt Lake City will host this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend. The game will take place on his February 19th.
Last year, Tatum was the only former Duke basketball player on the All-Star roster, but he became the starter for Team Durant in place of the injured Kevin Durant.
