OWENSBORO, Kentucky (WFIE) – With less than a month left in the regular season, the Owensboro Catholic men’s basketball program is playing one of the hottest teams in Bluegrass State.

The Owensboro Catholic (16-2) is led by a dynamic duo of seniors Brian Griffiths and Parker Gray. Griffiths leads the team in scoring, averaging 22.5 points per game this year. On the other hand, Gray has also put up impressive numbers on the offensive side, being an ace he has scored 12.4 points per game.

Griffiths, who has been playing for the Aces since eighth grade, officially surpassed his school’s career points record last week with 405 points for the season and a total of 1,977 points. He broke the record since James McNally reached his milestone in 1984.

“We play as a team, we move the ball, we play defense, we listen to Coach Riley,” Griffiths said. “He’s a good coach. He knows what he’s talking about, so we listen to him and try to get things done.”

“We have so many games that we have to run one game at a time,” said Gray. “It can be frustrating at times, but you have to keep your composure.”

“We’ve found a way to win,” said Tim Riley, head coach of the Owensboro Catholics. If it was a college basketball game, it would be a 90-point game, and it all started with those two seniors and the fact that they give a lot of points every time.”

The Aces head to the Apollo on Friday for their second visit with the Eagles.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15pm
