Houston, TX – Sticking to your New Year’s resolution to get in shape is never easy. Nigel Stokes knows she’s been helping other Houston women reach their goals for over a decade. The Women’s Elite Boxing Club on Richmond Avenue is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It’s a place where Nigel and what she calls “community” come together to stay healthy and bond.
“This is a place where women and girls can build confidence, build self-esteem and protect themselves. The energy here is just amazing.”
Nigel’s own personal journey is great. She weighed nearly 400 pounds when she decided she had to change things. She joined a boxing club, but it was for more serious fighters. She went away and started teaching what she had learned remotely at the park. “I was teaching all over Houston and was amazed at how fast it was growing,” she said.
With a growing client base, Nigel opened Women’s Elite Boxing Club in January 2013.
Over the past decade, Nigel has been more than just Jim. She’s built a community that’s a home for many others who want to stay healthy. Don’t set unrealistic goals, commit and just do it, get involved and have fun, create a routine and your body will start to change.”
