The Boston Red Sox and free agent outfielder Adam Duvall have agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal. Reported by Craig MischA lot of Duvall’s time over the last few seasons, aside from a brief hiatus in Miami, has been spent with the Braves.
In 86 games for the Braves last season, Duvall posted .213/.276/.401 (87 OPS+) with 16 doubles, 12 home runs, 36 RBIs, 39 runs scored and a -0.1 WAR. He was supposed to play an important role in the outfield, but with Ronald Acuna Jr. returning from injury and eventual Rookie of the Year Michael Harris II promoted from the minors, I lost my normal playing time. Duvall was a full-time starter while the Braves were on the run to the World Series championship in 2021 after acquiring it from the Marlins in a July trade. Hitting his 38th home run with his 113 RBIs.
In fact, in the three seasons Duvall has appeared in at least 145 games, he has hit at least 31 homers and had at least 99 RBIs.
Although he has spent time in all three outfield seats, most of his time in MLB has been in left field.
But as it stands, it’s possible the Red Sox might want Duval at center. Newly acquired Masataka Yoshida is left fielder and is expected to push Alex Verdugo to right field. Jalen Duran is also an option for center. The platoon seems to be in order as he swings the bat left-handed while Duvall is right-handed.
Red Sox seem to still need another infielder in the wake of Trevor Story injurybut Duval could help with depth in the outfield, allowing the team to move Quique Hernandez from the outfield to shortstop.
