Connor Benn continues to maintain his innocence.
Ben, 26, sent the boxing world into scandal when it was revealed in October that he had failed a drug test. This caused Chris to cancel his 157-pound catchweight fight with Eubank Jr. Ben had failed a test for the same substance, the fertility drug clomiphene, over the summer. Both tests were performed by his Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, a third-party testing agency.
On Monday, the embattled British welterweight released a story suggesting that his recent woes were coming to an end and that he hopes to be proven. Posted on his Instagram account, Ben has consistently maintained his innocence.
Ben is currently under investigation by the World Boxing Council and has been removed from the welterweight rankings.
“I’ve been through hell,” Ben wrote, picturing himself staring into the camera. “Thank God for science. Evidence doesn’t lie. Truth has no holes.”
A clearly confident Ben refers to the fact that he submitted a 270-page document to the WBC last month. The document reportedly indicates that Ben did not intend to cheat. Most recently, Ben expressed impatience with how long it took the organization to return the verdict. I have constantly insisted that I do not want it. Hahn and Ben were put in a negative light because they didn’t go public with their first failed drug test from the summer.
However, Ben is currently not suspended. In fact, he renounced his British Boxing Board of Control license in October.
In a previous post on Instagram Stories, Ben showed a snapshot of The Sun’s article. In it, WBC head Mauricio his Sulaiman said the investigation would take time and Ben was not suspended, so he is free to fight.
Eubank Jr. was not very kind to Ben’s post. On Twitter, Eubank, who is scheduled to face Liam Smith in a middleweight bout in Manchester, England this Saturday, mocked his opponent. Ben and Eubank spoke shortly after both parties realized a failed drug test led to the cancellation of the fight, but according to Eubank , Ben made no mention of failing Summer’s earlier test.
“I am convinced that it was science that detected the illegal substance in Connor’s body on two separate occasions,” Eubank wrote. “Yes, absolutely thank the gods of science…otherwise I would have fought the Hulk months ago!!”
Matchrom’s Hearn boldly predicted two weeks ago that he not only expects Ben to return in the first half of 2023, but believes Ben and Eubank will actually happen in the future. Eubank has expressed interest in revisiting the fight, saying the new story will help market their fight to the public and distinguish their rivalry from that of their father.
