Do you have room for more?Probability of seeing MLB in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Nashville is now the newest city to play for a Major League Baseball team.

But when talking about MLB expansion, when considering potential cities, Charlotte is always shortlisted.

But could it really happen?

Sports experts say it could be.

“We already have three teams in Washington, D.C. Why don’t we have any?” Charlotte Butts CEO Rick Carty asked.

Charlotte has the Panthers, Hornets, Knights and now Charlotte FC.

Rick isn’t the only one wondering why Charlotte isn’t a major league baseball team.

“There’s already a craving for baseball,” says Fanside sportswriter Kevin Henry. I think you would like to use it. “

Henry said when MLB officials look at Charlotte, they think of more than baseball.

“Charlotte FC was a big test for MLB coming in,” Henry said. “Fans flocked to the game.”

The last time MLB expanded was in the 90’s.

Henry said expansion is always a consideration. But Oakland and Tampa have problems to solve. He said Charlotte has a good chance once Oakland moves to Las Vegas and Tampa sorts out.

“Out of that, hey, let’s give Charlotte a good percentage… 66 percent chance of landing it, that’s what I mean,” Kevin said.

Rick said that for the past nine years, he had hoped Charlotte could have an MLB team. He’s ready to pitch to the upper echelons of MLB who may be listening.

“We’re in one of the fastest growing states and one of the fastest growing cities. So this is going to be a gold mine,” Rick said.

A gold mine — sure.

Better yet — a grand slam.
